tyler walked into the cafeteria, lunch in hand. her eyes scanned the crowded room, searching for an empty table but failed miserably. she then changed her mind, looking for an almost empty table and she felt success run through her veins. tyler went and sat on the other end, ignoring whomever it was sitting at that table since tyler wasn't that interested in who ever it was. the girl pulled out his vegan burger, topped with vegetables and soy cheese. she then began eating, sipping her vegan friendly strawberry smoothie she made at home. the girl kept his head down and her earphones in, listening to yacht and she found himself in her own little world of chopped and screwed indie electro. when tyler's burger was finished, she put the trash back in her little brown bag and kept quiet as she sipped her smoothie.
her eyes scanned the room, and honestly felt like a loser. everyone in there sat with friends, talked about shows and gossip and what not; meanwhile, she was alone. it's all her fault. tyler thought in her head, she was referring to her step mom. tyler's step mom, well almost ex step mom since the divorce was just about ready for court. it was her fault that on her first day at this new school she was eating alone with no one to talk to. it's her fault that she was pulled out of a school district she'd been in all her life during her senior year.
soon all those thoughts left her mind as she stopped looking at everyone else. tyler got up and threw away her trash then went and sat back down at the table she sat at, seeing half erased swear words and gossip on the surface. she sighed and rested her head on her hands

It had barely been a whole day, and already, Cailey was tired of this place. Everything just seemed so….blah, here recently, and it wasn’t exactly the most fun place for a person to be. Not that high school was ever supposed to be fun; after all, it was forced into everybody’s lives until they turned eighteen. There was always the option of dropping out when she turned that age, but even Cailey knew that wasn’t an option. Not with there being only a year left until she got to leave.
Lunchtime was always the worst. Not that she didn’t have a choice of where to sit; a lot of times she just joined whatever table or group she felt like. She liked to talk to everybody, and if there ever was a person she thought she hadn’t talked to, she’d fix it immediately. That was what she was doing now. Scanning the room for a new face, or someone she just hadn’t gotten around to.
After a few minutes of that, there was one person who she noticed looked familiar, but that she didn’t know. Who was that again? Taylor…Tyler? Something like that. Either way, Cailey knew she had a class or two with her. The girl seemed nice, so Cailey went over, sitting down at the table next to her. ”Hi,” was pretty much all she could think of at the time, and while she knew it wasn’t the best way to greet somebody, she knew that it was certainly good enough. tyler soon felt her personal, anti social space invaded. she looked up and saw the most beautiful girl she had ever lay eyes on. the look on her face made tyler's insides twist. luckily for this girl, her yacht playlist was over so she understood and heard her loud and clear. she unlocked the ipod touch and went to play the crystal castle playlist, popping out an earphone after wards. "hello there." tyler smiled, tucking her hair behind her unoccupied ear. in her dad's words, she always tucks her hair behind her ear when she's nervous. but what was there to be nervous about?
tyler had recognized this girl from the class she had before lunch, her eyes ran along her features and could just feel every nerve in her body shaking. tyler never really talked to girls since the incident at her old school when a girl tricked her to prove to the school she was gay, before she even came out. she was jumped, picked on, harassed every single day. so she distanced herself from those sort of people, she mainly just hung out with the gay kids. where she knew no one would fuck with her. "don't tell me uh-" she pondered her thoughts for the girl's name, then she looked into her eyes for a quick second and a smirk arose."cailey right?" then she suddenly hoped she was right, that would of sucked.

Cailey had been in the process of opening her own lunch up – today’s choice being a quick peanut butter and jelly sandwich as she’d managed to oversleep by half an hour that morning – as the other girl spoke. For a moment, she thought that the girl didn’t know after all, which wasn’t really a problem since names were hard to remember even for Cailey. She gave the girl a smile and nodded when she did get it, replying, ”Yup. That’s it. You’re Tyler, right?” It wasn’t exactly a hard name for Cailey to remember. Tyler was an uncommon name for a girl, so it kind of stuck out whenever you did find a female with that name. It wasn’t a bad thing; it was unique. The kind of name that she liked people to have, since hers wasn’t exactly common in itself.
After pausing for a moment, it became clear to her that there was a question that she had yet to ask, and it was kind of an important question. ”So where you from? I didn’t quite catch it in class if it was brought up.” Okay, so maybe not quite that important, but it was still a nice thing to know. It was fun knowing that there were people from different parts of the country here. It made the place diverse, and not suck as much as it would had everyone been from around Brooklyn.
